British media: Netflix removes Chinese TV series due to "nine-dash line" map controversy in Vietnam
Netflix removed the Chinese romantic drama "Shine on Me" from its platform in Vietnam, which caused dissatisfaction in Vietnam due to the map containing the "nine-dash line" in episode 25. The Vietnamese Ministry of Culture required Netflix to delete the show within 24 hours, and Netflix complied.
Vietnam believes that the "nine-dash line" infringes on its sovereignty, while China uses this line to mark its territorial claims in the South China Sea. Vietnam had previously also requested Netflix to remove other films and TV shows for similar issues, including the Chinese TV series "Flying Towards the Wind" as well as Hollywood movies like "Barbie" and the animated film "A Boy Named Sue."
