Japanese Media: High-Tech Exports Drive China's September Export Surge to New Record

According to Jiji Press on October 14: China's exports reached $447.18 billion (approximately 7 trillion yen) in September, marking a year-on-year increase of 36.3% and setting a new monthly record.

The export growth has also been supported by global investment enthusiasm in artificial intelligence. The trade surplus reached an all-time high.

September’s export value surpassed the previous monthly peak recorded in June, which stood at around $412.4 billion. Imports rose by 31.0% year-on-year to $313.65 billion, also reaching a historical high. The increase was driven by rising crude oil prices amid renewed tensions in the Middle East.

The trade balance—calculated as exports minus imports—registered a surplus of $133.53 billion, exceeding $100 billion for the fifth consecutive month. The cumulative surplus from January to September surpassed that of the same period last year and approached last year’s full-year figure of approximately $1.2 trillion, reaching a historic peak.

By category, exports of high-tech products rose by 63.7%. Semiconductor exports increased nearly 2.4 times, while equipment and components—including AI-related products—grew by 92.9%. Car exports also rose by 56.3%.
