Reuters, Hindustan Times, November 13 - India has activated the Mudh-Nyoma airbase near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh. On November 12, Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh of the Indian Air Force landed at Nyoma Airport on a C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft. The base is located at an altitude of about 4,179 meters and is only 30 kilometers from the LAC, making it the fourth airport in Ladakh, designed for the deployment of fighter jets. The concept of constructing this base originated during the border standoff between India and China in 2020, and construction began on September 12, 2023, under the supervision of the Border Roads Organization, with the participation of the Indian defense minister. Analysts point out that although recent agreements between India and China have eased bilateral tensions and restored flights and bilateral visits, mutual distrust remains difficult to eliminate. Both sides continue to strengthen their infrastructure along the border. At the same time, growing criticism within India: several former officials, generals, and current members of parliament have accused the Modi government of conceding too much in border negotiations, claiming that "China holds a more favorable position at key locations, while the buffer zone restricts Indian military activities in traditional patrol areas," and stating that "India's tacit acceptance has actually allowed China to move the boundary line closer to India." Such voices are becoming more frequent and louder, posing a significant challenge to the Modi government.
