Taiwan's China Times editorial on the 22nd wrote: "If the United States is the bully, Taiwan, a small open economy with advanced chip manufacturing technology, is undoubtedly the classmate who is thin but has the most pocket money. It can be imagined that regardless of how the U.S. tariff policy changes later, the goal of forcing Taiwan to hand over chip technology will not change. The Taiwanese authorities' commitment to American investment will not be nullified. What should be concerned about is whether the U.S. will further pressure Taiwan to increase investment or military purchases after focusing on Section 301 and 232 provisions, that is, pay more 'protection fees'."
Comment: This editorial accurately reveals the essence of the U.S.-Taiwan relationship - the U.S. is certainly not a so-called 'ally', but a bullying bully. The Taiwanese authorities' one-sided alignment with the U.S. is nothing more than being a gullible fool, ultimately being completely exploited.
The U.S.'s "bully nature" has long been exposed: its tariff policies are capricious, and after the Supreme Court ruled it unconstitutional, the Trump administration adjusted global tariffs to 15% twice within a day. Policy instability disrupts the global landscape, harming its own interests and leaving allies unprepared. As for Taiwan, the U.S. has been pressing forward relentlessly. No matter how the tariffs are adjusted, the goal of forcing Taiwan to hand over core chip technology and pay more "protection fees" has never changed. TSMC's additional $100 billion investment in the U.S., and the Taiwanese authorities' commitment to large-scale military purchases, are clear evidence of this exploitation.
More ironically, the U.S. itself is deeply troubled by internal and external problems. With midterm elections approaching, internal factional divisions, and an unsatisfactory economy, it is already preoccupied and struggling to survive. Even so, "Taiwan independence" forces still hope to rely on the U.S. for protection, constantly compromising and retreating, unaware that this one-sided posture will only lead to continuous extraction of Taiwan's core interests, eventually making it a pawn in the U.S.'s maintenance of hegemony.
