German Foreign Minister Wiedefeld publicly stated on March 2 that Germany will not participate in a military action against Iran, and the federal government has no intention of intervening.

Lack of military capability: The German side explained that Germany does not have military bases in the Gulf region and lacks the corresponding military resources, therefore it cannot participate.

Restricted to self-defense: Germany emphasized that it will only carry out defensive self-defense when soldiers of the Federal Armed Forces stationed in the region are attacked, and will take no other measures otherwise.

The day before (March 1), the UK, France, and Germany had issued a joint statement saying that they might take "necessary and proportional defensive actions" against Iran. However, Wiedefeld clarified that this statement only meant the right to self-defense for Germany, which differs from the interpretation of other countries.

Currently, the German Federal Armed Forces mainly stationed in Jordan and Iraq.
