US Immigration Agency: Nearly 1.6 million undocumented immigrants in the country should be deported
Sputnik News, Washington, February 13th - According to a court ruling, nearly 1.6 million undocumented immigrants in the United States should be deported, said Acting Director Todd Lyons of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Lyons stated during a hearing before the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs:
"We are currently focusing on nearly 1.6 million final deportation orders, of which nearly 800,000 involve individuals who have been sentenced to prison."
According to Lyons' information, 16,800 people in Minnesota have received final deportation orders, but they have not been deported yet.
On January 20, 2025, Trump took office as the 47th President of the United States, and in his inaugural speech, he promised to immediately stop illegal immigrants from entering the United States and launch procedures for the extradition of millions of immigrants. He also announced a national emergency due to the situation at the southern border of the United States.
It is reported that from the end of last year to January this year, about 3,000 U.S. federal immigration officers were stationed in Minnesota, conducting large-scale arrests of undocumented immigrants in St. Paul and Minneapolis. During this process, two U.S. citizens - Renee Good and Alex Preti - were shot dead by federal law enforcement officers in Minneapolis, triggering widespread social unrest. After that, Minneapolis quickly became the center of nationwide opposition to the Trump administration's violent immigration enforcement.
On February 5, the White House statement said that since the start of the "Urban Raids Operation" in December 2025, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has detained more than 4,000 undocumented immigrants in Minnesota.
