Korean President: Current Reality Does Not Allow for Optimistic Expectations

Sputnik News, Gyeongju (South Korea), October 31st - South Korean President Lee Jae-myung stated at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit that the current reality does not allow for optimistic expectations.

He said during the opening ceremony of the first session of the 2025 APEC Summit: "Our current situation does not allow for optimistic expectations. We all live in a critical moment of rapid changes in the international order. Free trade is undergoing drastic changes, global economic uncertainty is increasing, and the vitality of trade and investment is declining."

The core activity of the APEC Summit Week - the Leaders' Meeting - was opened for the first time in South Korea on October 31st, 20 years later, and will last until November 1st.

This Gyeongju Summit brings together all member delegations as well as invited leaders - the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund and the Crown Prince of the UAE. The Russian delegation is led by Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk.

The first session of the summit began at 10:00 local time (9:00 Beijing time). South Korean President Lee Jae-myung presided over the opening, followed by a speech by the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund. Subsequently, participants will speak in alphabetical order.
