According to the Japan Ministry of Defense's Joint Staff Office on May 25, 2026: Around 3:00 PM on May 22, the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force detected the Chinese Navy's Type 054A frigate "Anyang" (hull number 599) and Type 075 amphibious assault ship "Anhui" (hull number 33) approximately 110 kilometers southwest of Kume Island in Okinawa Prefecture, both vessels sailing toward the southeast direction.
Subsequent confirmation revealed that these vessels passed through the waters between Okinawa's main island and Miyako Island (Miyako Strait), heading toward the Pacific Ocean.
The Japan Ministry of Defense and the Self-Defense Forces deployed P-3C anti-submarine patrol aircraft from the 5th Air Group of the Maritime Self-Defense Force, stationed at Naha Base, to conduct surveillance and intelligence gathering operations regarding the relevant vessels.
