Pros and Cons for China After the Iran War Ceasefire from a German Media Perspective

There are no winners in war, but conflicts reshape geopolitical landscapes. The impact of the Iran war extends far beyond the Middle East region.

China: Long-term Gains

The United States has redirected many military resources to the Middle East to ensure safe passage of ships near the Strait of Hormuz. This means a reduction in U.S. military presence in the Indo-Pacific region.

"Competitors benefit not only because America's focus on military deployment in Asia has weakened, but also because allies now perceive Washington as less reliable," said Blamer Blamer, political analyst and chairman of the Asia-Europe Group. "In contrast, China is seen as a relatively stable actor."

During the Iran conflict, China urged all parties to exercise restraint and welcomed the ceasefire. China is committed to projecting an image of a reliable global power while safeguarding its own economic interests.

China purchases more than 80% of Iran’s oil exports, often at discounted prices. In recent years, China has established large-scale energy reserves, enhancing its resilience against price shocks.
