On October 18 local time, U.S. President Trump posted on his social media platform "Truth Social" that the U.S. military had destroyed a large submarine carrying drugs and heading toward the United States. He said that U.S. intelligence confirmed the submarine was loaded with drugs, and there were four "drug dealers" on board, two of whom were killed and the other two survived.

After announcing this news, the U.S. Department of Defense posted a short black-and-white video on social media.

In the video, a submarine can be seen moving in the waves, with its front part submerged just a few inches below the water surface. Then, several explosions are seen, at least one occurring at the stern of the ship.

Footage released on social media showing the strike

Trump pointed out that the two survivors were from Ecuador and Colombia, and would be repatriated to their home countries for detention and prosecution. He said that no U.S. personnel were injured in the attack.

According to the South China Morning Post, on the same day, the Ecuadorian government's office of news stated that it was unaware of the related repatriation plan. The Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the president's office had not yet responded immediately to requests for comments.
