James Comer, chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, said on Wednesday that Commerce Secretary Linda McMahon was "not fully truthful" about whether she had ever visited Jeffrey Epstein's private island, ahead of a closed-door interview with McMahon. McMahon's testimony is part of the committee's investigation into Epstein. She admitted in February this year that she had visited Epstein's private island with her husband and children, but previously told senators she had severed all contact with Epstein after first meeting him in 2005. According to the Associated Press, McMahon still corresponded via email with Epstein in 2018 regarding an expansion project for a museum in her community. Comer stated that no evidence of misconduct has yet been found in those emails, but raised concerns about discrepancies in McMahon's account of whether she actually set foot on the island. He also noted that only a small number of individuals who have come forward and confirmed having visited the island have been contacted by the committee. During her earlier testimony before the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee, McMahon claimed she saw no suspicious or illegal activities on the island—only staff members working for Epstein. She also denied knowledge of a document showing she attended a dinner at Epstein’s residence in 2011 alongside Woody Allen, stating that after reviewing the records, she found only one entry indicating a one-hour meeting with Epstein in May of that year, not a dinner.
