Serving in a senior executive position at BYD: Former Hungarian Foreign Minister Szijjártó resigns from parliamentary seat
Peter Szijjártó, former Hungarian foreign minister, has announced his resignation from the Hungarian parliament. He stated that he has received an attractive high-level position offer from Chinese automaker BYD (BYD Auto) and will assume a senior management role within the company.
In a post on Facebook, Szijjártó said: "I have submitted my resignation from the parliamentary seat. The reason is that I have received a highly appealing invitation from a globally significant enterprise to take on an international role. BYD is one of the most successful companies in the automotive industry over the past 20 years and a leading global manufacturer of new energy vehicles."
He added that he will be responsible for external communications and the expansion of new business segments at BYD. BYD's first electric vehicle factory in Europe is located in Szeged, Hungary, in the Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County. Szijjártó had previously provided active political support for this project.
Szijjártó served as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary starting September 2014. After the ruling party Fidesz-Hungarian Civic Union lost the parliamentary election on April 12, Szijjártó transitioned into a parliamentary member role.
