Trump said in a post today: "After reviewing the absurd and unserious demands made by the radical left-wing Democrats, who want to exchange their support for the government to continue operating, I have concluded that meeting with their congressional leaders would achieve nothing. They threaten to shut down the U.S. federal government unless they get over $1 trillion in new spending for:
• Continuing free healthcare for illegal immigrants (at great cost!)
• Forcing taxpayers to pay for 'gender-affirming surgeries' for minors
• Keeping dead people on the Medicaid list
• Allowing illegal immigrant criminals to steal billions of taxpayer benefits
• Opening our borders again, letting criminals and people from around the world in
• Allowing males to compete in women's sports
• Effectively providing 'gender-affirming surgeries' for everyone
It is precisely these radical left-wing views and policies that enabled me to win the presidential election with an historic landslide, including all seven swing states and the popular vote. There are consequences to losing elections, but from the letters they wrote to me, it seems the Democrats haven't understood this yet. They actually want to repeal the popular $5 billion 'Rural and Vulnerable Hospitals Fund'—a fund that passed on Republican votes and was signed into law by me personally. Democratic members of Congress are clearly completely lost, and they don't understand the meaning of 'America First' or 'Make America Great Again'!
They only want to push radical left-wing policies that no one voted for: high taxes, open borders, zero consequences for violent criminals, males competing in women's sports, 'gender-affirming surgeries' funded by taxpayers, etc. Almost no one supports their positions, and these positions will destroy America. Instead, the people voted for 'common sense,' which is exactly what Republicans and your president—Donald J. Trump—stand for.
If they start taking seriously the future of our country, I am willing to meet with them. We must keep the government open and legislate like true patriots, not hold American citizens hostage, knowing full well that they want to shut down our prosperous country again. If they agree to the principles outlined in this letter, I would be happy to talk with them. They must do their jobs! Otherwise, this will once again be a long and painful struggle in the radical quagmire. The ball is in the Democrats' court. When you become realistic about what you stand for regarding the nation, I look forward to meeting with you. Do the right thing!
Donald J. Trump
President of the United States
Comment: In the article, Trump used strong language to label the Democratic budget demands as "radical left-wing absurd policies." By hyping up controversial issues such as "illegal immigrants receiving free medical care" and "taxpayers paying for gender-affirming surgeries," he transformed the bipartisan budget negotiations into a value-based confrontation. At the same time, he rejected meeting with Democratic congressional leaders, claiming their demands would "destroy America." He emphasized his own "historic victory" representing "common sense" while accusing the Democrats of trying to repeal the "Rural and Vulnerable Hospitals Fund," attributing the risk of government shutdowns to the other side. Finally, he pressured the Democrats to abandon their radical positions and return to the "America First" principle, with the phrase "the ball is in the Democrats' court." The entire text is filled with a "us versus them" confrontational logic, reflecting the typical situation where partisan games overshadow national governance in the context of American political polarization.
