Toronto Implements "Crackdown Enforcement Actions," 13 Types of Areas Strictly Prohibit Illegal Parking, Violators Fined $190+Towing!

The city of Toronto and the Toronto Police Service will implement "crackdown enforcement actions" starting today (June 16th) on Monday for a two-week period, focusing on cracking down on drivers who park in no-stopping zones during rush hour periods on major roads. Offenders may receive a fine of CAD 190 and their vehicles may be towed.

According to a press release issued by the City of Toronto on Monday, police parking enforcement officers "will be strategically deployed along busy corridors in the downtown area" to enforce the "no-stopping" municipal by-law.

The city stated that enforcement efforts between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on weekdays will be intensified.

The city emphasized that "no-stopping zones" refer to areas where drivers are prohibited from parking unless it is necessary to avoid conflicts with other vehicles or comply with police or traffic signals. These areas include main corridors in the downtown area, areas near bus stops and streetcar stops, as well as areas near crosswalks and fire hydrants.

The city emphasized that there will be a complete ban on parking in "no-stopping zones," No stopping, no standing, no parking.

According to the city's official website, the list of "no-stopping zones" includes:

1. Bridges/underpasses

2. Bus stops: 18.5 meters before and 30.5 meters after the stop

3. Streetcar stops: 15 meters before and 36.5 meters after the stop

4. Turns: 15 meters if indicated, otherwise 9 meters by default

5. Crosswalks: 18.5 meters before and 30.5 meters after

6. Dead ends: 15 meters if indicated, otherwise 9 meters by default

7. Fire stations: 7.5 meters on the same side of the entrance and 30.5 meters on the opposite side (allowing turning radius)

8. Fire hydrants: 3 meters

9. Ramps: 0.6 meters

10. Railways: 15 meters

11. Safety zones: 15 meters

12. Traffic lights: 15 meters if there is an officer on duty at the intersection, otherwise 30.5 meters

13. T-junctions: 9 meters

In April, city council instructed city staff and the Toronto Police Service to conduct two "no-parking enforcement crackdown actions" this year, one at the end of June and another at the end of September.

The press release stated: "This enforcement action aims to remind drivers of the importance of obeying traffic signs to maintain smooth traffic flow, especially during the busiest hours of the day, and to support the city's comprehensive traffic congestion management plan."

The city stated that it will review the results of the enforcement action on June 27 after the crackdown operation "to assess its impact and determine follow-up measures."
