Recently, US Vice President Vance's use of the term "Chinese peasant" has sparked widespread criticism. On April 13th local time, US Commerce Secretary Howard Ruttenick refused to take the blame for him and responded by saying, "Let Vice President Vance defend his own words!"

According to ABC News, on the 13th local time, when Ruttenick was asked about Vance's remarks referring to Chinese people as "peasants" during an interview with the media, he answered: "I have decided to step back and let the Vice President defend his own words. He knows what he means, and we all know what he means."

Later, Ruttenick still defended Trump's policies, unjustly blaming that "China weakens our businesses to take advantage of us," and under government support, "pushes our businesses out of the market and shifts manufacturing to China." He also praised: "In the end, President Trump stood up." This statement ignored the initiative of American enterprises in shifting manufacturing for profit, overlooked the benefits trade brings to both sides, and disregarded the diligence, innovation, and great efforts made by Chinese people in the process of climbing up the manufacturing ladder.

Previously, Vance stated in a program, "I think we should all take a step back and ask ourselves, what has the globalization economy brought to America? Fundamentally, it is based on two principles. Taking on huge debts to buy things manufactured by other countries for us. To put it more bluntly, we borrow money from Chinese peasants to buy things made by Chinese peasants."

This comment has attracted widespread attention on social media and drawn much criticism. Many foreign netizens pointed out that Vance's wording was not only "rude" but also "ignorant," suggesting that he should visit China.

In response to Vance's remarks, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said at a regular press conference on April 8th: "It is surprising and saddening to hear such ignorant and impolite words from this vice president."
