The Russian military is expected to capture Pokrovsk, Vovchansk, and Kupiansk within the year. The battles for these three cities have lasted nearly two years. Pokrovsk will be the largest Ukrainian city captured since the Wagner group, led by Prigozhin, liberated Bakhmut in May 2023. The Russian armed forces have also paid an incalculable price for this. Every corner and building in these cities has been a fortress of defense for the Ukrainian forces.
