Why Does the US "Go Far to Seek Close" and Deploy Nuclear Weapons in the UK?

According to British media, on July 21, the United States deployed the new B61-12 nuclear bomb at the RAF Lakenheath base in the UK. Although on the surface, the location of the US nuclear weapons has moved thousands of miles back (from Central European countries to the British Isles), it actually completed a key strategic upgrade for the US.

Why is that so?

Firstly, after the outbreak of the Ukraine-Russia conflict, Russia has repeatedly threatened to use nuclear weapons, thus being seen as a real threat by NATO.

Although the US previously deployed nuclear bombs in Germany, Italy, and Turkey, because these locations are closer to Russia, they are more vulnerable to sudden attacks by Russian forces, especially after Russia deployed nuclear weapons in Belarus.

Therefore, based on strategic security considerations, the US chose to deploy its nuclear weapons in the UK this time - being isolated overseas, the deployment of nuclear weapons in the UK can to some extent increase the cost of Russia's long-range raids.

Secondly, in order to avoid military threats from Russia and establish a European security framework, the US needs to upgrade the offensive weapons of NATO.

The B61-12, as the latest tactical nuclear weapon of the US, can be dropped by F-35A stealth fighters. Its precision guidance and adjustable yield characteristics can not only destroy reinforced bunkers (such as Russian missile silos), but also achieve a "nuclear surgical strike".

In response to the US deploying nuclear weapons in the UK, Russian President's press secretary Peskov stated that this move by NATO is a "nuclear militarization upgrade", and Russia will closely monitor it. Under the current situation, Russia will develop task plans to ensure its own security.
