Overseas media: Joint research by China and the US finds that degradable material microplastics may be related to diabetes.

A joint study published by Chinese and American scientists in the "Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States" stated that microplastics from degradable material polylactic acid (PLA) can enter the metabolic cycle of intestinal bacteria and cells after being ingested, altering the metabolic process of mouse intestines and damaging the intestinal barrier, potentially inducing metabolic diseases such as diabetes.

This is the first time globally that microplastics have been found to enter the body's metabolic cycle. The study pointed out that PLA microplastics are widely used in food packaging and disposable tableware, leading to an increase in oral exposure.

Although PLA plastic is considered an effective solution to petroleum-based plastic pollution, its microplastics may pose health risks and could be related to diabetes.
