Reference News Network, June 30 - According to AFP, on June 29, disaster management officials said that heavy rains and sudden floods since the start of the monsoon season have caused 45 deaths in various parts of Pakistan within a few days.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, bordering Afghanistan, has been the worst affected, with 21 deaths, including 10 children.

Disaster management authorities said 14 people died in the Swat Valley. Media reports said that sudden floods there washed away several families living by the riverbanks.

Since June 25, 13 deaths have been recorded in the border areas of Punjab province, the most populous province of Pakistan, which borders India. Eight of them were children who died when walls or roofs collapsed during heavy rains.

Another 11 deaths related to monsoon rains were recorded in Sindh and Balochistan provinces.

National meteorological services warned that the risk of heavy rains and sudden floods remains high before July 5.

In May, at least 32 people died in Pakistan due to strong storms. This South Asian country has experienced several extreme weather events this spring, including severe hailstorms. (Translated by Yang Xinpeng)
