It is the first time that the United States has sold weapons to Ukraine after the U.S.-Russia summit.

According to U.S. media reports, the Trump administration approved the sale of nearly $1 billion in weapons to Ukraine, which will include extended-range missiles and related equipment to enhance its defense capabilities, as U.S. efforts to facilitate peace between Ukraine and Russia seem to have stalled. The State Department announced on Thursday that it had notified Congress of the sale of $825 million in extended-range attack missile munitions and navigation systems to Ukraine. This sale will cover 3,350 ERAM missiles, 3,350 GPS units and their components, spare parts and other accessories, as well as training and technical support. It stated that Ukraine will pay for the equipment using funds from NATO allies Denmark, the Netherlands, and Norway, along with U.S. foreign military financing.

The State Department said in a statement: "This proposed sale will support the United States' foreign policy and national security objectives by improving the security of a partner country that plays a role in political stability and economic progress in Europe."

This sale was announced as Russia continues to increase its attacks on Ukraine, despite President Trump's meeting with Russian leader Putin in Alaska earlier this month, urging a deal to end the conflict that has lasted three years.
