According to the aforementioned U.S. media, Maureen Comey worked in the U.S. Attorney's Office for nearly ten years and participated in the prosecution of Jeffrey Epstein, a former billionaire in the United States, and his ex-girlfriend, Maxwell, a key figure in the Epstein case. Recently, she also participated in the prosecution of the American rapper "Puff Daddy" (real name Sean Combs). Epstein was charged in July 2019 for sexual trafficking with minors and died mysteriously in prison a month later. In 2022, Maxwell was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for aiding Epstein in sexually exploiting and abusing minor females.

Politico, a U.S. news website, reported that in recent weeks, President Trump and Attorney General Barr have been heavily criticized for deciding not to release more documents related to Epstein.

Axios, a U.S. news website, stated that the reason for Maureen Comey's dismissal is currently unclear. The White House and the U.S. Department of Justice did not immediately respond to the media's request for comment, but her dismissal is "notable," as she is the daughter of James Comey, the former FBI director, who was fired during Trump's first term.

Additionally, James Comey was questioned by the Secret Service in May this year after posting a controversial photo on social media. The photo showed seashells arranged on the beach forming the numbers "86 47." The photo was later deleted. According to the report, the number "86" usually refers to discarding or getting rid of something, while Trump is currently the 47th president of the United States. This has become a popular code on social media to demand that Trump be removed from power.
