Southeast University's construction of the world's first large specialized mother ship for underwater unmanned vehicles draws widespread attention

The UK's Naval News reports that China is constructing what appears to be the world's first dedicated vessel designed for deploying large underwater unmanned vehicles (UUVs), with the ship spotted at a shipyard in Shanghai.

This vessel is equipped with a dry dock, launch systems, and an internal hangar capable of housing approximately four underwater UUVs.

China has already been testing two XXLUUVs (with lengths of 35 meters and 45 meters respectively), which are significantly larger than the U.S. Navy’s "Orca" UUV, measuring six to eight times the size of the latter.

Naval News states that the only plausible explanation is that this vessel serves as a combat-oriented mother ship for underwater drones, rather than a research or scientific vessel.

The article notes that China is currently leading all other nations in the development and deployment of full-scale underwater unmanned vehicles.
