Japan's birth numbers set a new ten-year low
Japan's birth numbers in 2025 are estimated to be about 700,000, setting a new record for the tenth consecutive year.
According to preliminary population statistics for 2025, including foreign residents in Japan, the number of births in 2025 is approximately 705,809, setting a new ten-year low. The number of deaths was 1,605,654.
Additionally, the number of marriages increased for the second consecutive year, reaching 505,656.
Regarding the continued decline in birth numbers, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare stated: "We take the declining birth rate seriously, and we believe that the decline in birth rate has not shown any signs of stopping, with the background being the decrease in the young population and the increasing number of people marrying and having children later in life."
