Reference News Network, September 22 - According to AFP, September 21, North Korean state media reported that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un said he is prepared to resume contact with the United States if the US no longer demands Pyongyang to abandon its nuclear weapons program.

According to KCNA, Kim Jong-un said: "If the United States gives up its crazy denuclearization obsession and acknowledges reality, and truly hopes to live in peace with us, then there is no reason to prevent us from sitting down face-to-face."

At the Supreme People's Assembly, Kim Jong-un delivered a speech, saying: "I have good memories of the current US President Trump."

KCNA reported that Kim Jong-un believes sanctions against North Korea are ineffective, and instead help North Korea "become stronger and more resilient, and will not be defeated by any pressure."

Trump had met with Kim Jong-un several times during his first presidential term. Since returning to the White House, he has also expressed willingness to resume contact with the North Korean leader. He described Kim Jong-un as a "smart person."

The report stated that when Kim Jong-un spoke at the Supreme People's Assembly, he also said: "Everyone knows what the US does after restricting a country from giving up nuclear weapons and reducing military forces."

This North Korean leader said: "We will never give up our nuclear weapons." Although he expressed willingness to resume dialogue with the United States, he said "there is no reason to sit at the negotiation table with South Korea." (Translated by Lu Longjun)
