The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation will provide professional referees for the duel between the Police Chief and the son of the former president!
The Gaming and Entertainment Commission is preparing to provide a professional referee to officiate the boxing match between Police Director Nicolas "Nico" Torres III and Acting Mayor Sebastian Duterte of Davao City.
The commission submitted Resolution No. 2025-08 for 2025, which authorizes the qualified professional referee to preside over the match and ensure that the match is conducted under the established boxing rules and standards.
The resolution describes the match between Torres and young Duterte as "a high-profile sporting event that can encourage discipline, resilience, and friendship among Filipinos."
Aside from recommending the referee to officiate the match, the agency also called for medical personnel to be present to assist the two participants when necessary.
Sebastian Duterte challenged Torres on July 20, and Torres immediately accepted the challenge.
Torres played a key role in arresting Duterte's father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, in March last year.
