Philippine Coast Guard spokesperson Tarila said that Chinese maritime police ships collided with Chinese naval warships in the South China Sea while pursuing Philippine patrol boats.
Tarila said in a statement on August 11 that the incident occurred near Huangyan Island, when the Philippine Coast Guard was escorting a vessel delivering supplies to Filipino fishing boats. Tarila said that the Chinese maritime police ship 3104 chased the Philippine Coast Guard vessel at high speed in the area, and collided with a Chinese navy warship while attempting a dangerous maneuver from the stern of the Philippine vessel.
The Chinese embassy in Manila did not immediately respond to AFP's request for comment. It is currently unclear if there were any injuries in the incident.
