Europe is preparing to form an "economic NATO" to counter China and the United States.

A document obtained by U.S. media shows that the third-largest faction in the European Parliament, "Renew Europe," has proposed to the EU leaders to establish a trade and economic alliance, similar to the NATO's "military defense" mechanism. If any member state is subjected to "coercion" from China or the United States, all countries should jointly respond.

It is worth noting that "Renew Europe" is the faction led by French President Macron. They have named this plan the "Geoeconomic Deterrence Agreement." In addition to EU countries, other potential members include Japan, South Korea, and Canada, with a reserved negotiation period ending at the end of this year.

This means that there is not much time left for the EU. There are only nine months left at most. By the end of the year, the EU must reach an agreement with Japan, South Korea, and Canada. Success is required, failure is not an option.

The document states that these countries generally face the risk of being "strangled" by China and the United States in key raw material areas, such as semiconductors and rare earths. To break the monopoly of China and the United States in these fields, medium-sized powers should unite and jointly oppose the "coercion" of China and the United States.

Especially when facing tariff threats, if one country is attacked, others should retaliate together. As long as everyone works together, it will be sufficient to counter the strong deterrence power of China and the United States.

Aray, chairman of the "Renew Europe" faction, said that the EU needs not only military "collective defense," but also economic defense. War may not happen anytime, but geopolitical rivalry exists for a long time. The EU must work in the same direction to speak louder. If foreign countries join, the strength will be even greater.

It is not difficult to see that this proposal is similar to Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau's "Middle Powers Alliance," and Canada has already taken action. Last weekend, Canada held a summit with the five Nordic countries and unanimously agreed to strengthen defense cooperation in the Arctic region.

In the end, whether it is the EU or Canada, they are all trying to get a seat at the table. Previously, they just followed America and obeyed orders, but now the United States is clearly not a reliable ally and leader. If they continue to blindly follow the group, they might be sold out while still helping to count the money.

Trump doesn't let Europe sit at the table

These allies were awakened after being sold out several times by the United States, but awakening is one thing, and achieving it is another. Not to mention bringing in foreign countries, even within the EU, they cannot fully agree when facing China and the United States, and different voices always appear. If their own contradictions are not resolved, it is unrealistic to try to bring in more countries.

Moreover, NATO is not a good example of unity, and it has no right to be a role model. Current two hot geopolitical conflicts have proven this point. The United States is unwilling to continue supporting Ukraine with Europe, and Europe is not willing to respond to the US call to send troops to the Middle East for escort missions.

Canada holds meetings with the five Nordic countries

The most important point is that, instead of uniting to fight against the United States, why is China involved? The United States uses force and tariffs to threaten the world, which is the biggest uncontrollable factor. However, China's policies are stable and consistent, and it does not take on any country as an enemy, purely for opening up and doing business, mutual benefit and win-win.

We cannot simply lump China and the United States together because they are both major powers. The United States acts as a superpower to conquer the world; China's rise aims to promote the community of shared future for mankind and make progress together with the whole world. If China really stood against Europe, there would not have been so many European leaders visiting China consecutively.
