The Kuomintang and the People First Party have each nominated candidates for the races for New Taipei City Mayor, Chiayi City Mayor, and Yilan County Magistrate, with both parties ultimately aiming to jointly support the strongest candidate. On the morning of the day, Chen Wan-hui, the People First Party's candidate, posted on her fan page announcing her public invitation to comedian Wu Zongxian to co-host a campaign speech focused on "the future development vision for Lanyang," allowing residents of Yilan to see the ideals of the unified KMT-PFP candidate for county magistrate, as well as their dedication to Yilan’s development.

Wu Zongxian expressed through a press release that he welcomes any form of initiative that contributes to policy discussion and public dialogue. He has not yet formally received an invitation, nor is he aware of the specific format or details of the event. He will first seek clarification from Chen Wan-hui regarding the plans before making further public statements, and will strive toward cooperation in all matters.

In response, Lin Guozhang’s campaign office of the Democratic Progressive Party stated that while they respect any discussion concerning Yilan’s development, at this critical juncture, they hope the KMT-PFP coalition would instead focus on the most urgent issues affecting people’s livelihoods and safety.

The Lin Guozhang campaign office pointed out that with the rainy season approaching in May and frequent heavy rains occurring recently, flood control and disaster prevention budgets remain stalled due to the ongoing impasse over the overall budget bill. Lin Guozhang expressed deep concern, emphasizing that flood control efforts transcend party lines and that disaster prevention projects cannot afford any gaps.

The Lin Guozhang campaign office stated that rather than focusing on election collaborations and polling data, the KMT-PFP alliance should prioritize working together to advance the submission of the overall budget bill for review. Only by ensuring the budget passes smoothly can Yilan’s grassroots infrastructure and livelihood protection be safeguarded—getting essential livelihood funding implemented swiftly is what matters most to the people of Yilan.
