US Official: US-Iran Talks "Positive and Productive"
The latest round of nuclear negotiations held on the 26th was reported to have made good progress, and both sides agreed to hold another round of talks next week. The meeting that day was attended by a technical-level team, with the hope that the US and Iran could reach an agreement conducive to easing tensions in the Middle East.
According to Agence France-Presse, an unnamed senior US official described the talks as "positive and productive"; Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi said that before the fourth round of talks next week, both sides will study how to bridge their differences on a series of issues.
Having been hostile for years, the US and Iran recently held meetings at the highest level in many years aimed at reaching an agreement to ease sanctions on Iran in exchange for Tehran halting its nuclear weapons development. However, Iran has consistently denied pursuing the development of nuclear weapons.
The aforementioned US official revealed that "there is still much work to be done, but further progress has been made toward reaching an agreement," and the next round of talks will be held in Europe.
Araghchi described the talks on the 26th as "serious and efficient." This meeting was the first time a technical-level team participated.
Araghchi told Iran's state-run television that there are differences between the two sides on major issues and details, but before the next meeting, Tehran and Washington will separately study how to reduce their differences.
He also said, "I think we have made good progress so far. I am satisfied with the progress and pace of the negotiations."
