Reference News, July 19 - According to Reuters, on July 18, court records showed that U.S. President Trump filed a lawsuit against Dow Jones, News Corporation, media mogul Rupert Murdoch, and two journalists from The Wall Street Journal, and claimed damages under federal defamation law.

No copy of the complaint is currently available. The case has been filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida in Miami.

Previously, The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump allegedly sent a birthday letter to Jeffrey Epstein in 2003, which included an image with sexual implications and mentioned a "secret" shared by the two. This lawsuit was filed after the report was published.

Trump strongly denied The Wall Street Journal's report. He had also warned Murdoch, the founder of News Corporation, the parent company of The Wall Street Journal, that he intended to file a lawsuit.

In addition, due to public questioning of how the Trump administration handled the sex crimes cases involving Epstein, presidential aides are expected to apply to the court on July 18 to release grand jury testimony related to the Epstein case as a countermeasure by the president.

According to the website of Singapore's Lianhe Zaobao, in the previous lawsuit, Trump claimed at least $1 billion in damages.

On the morning of July 18, Trump posted on social media: "We just filed a major lawsuit against all those who published false, malicious, defamatory, and fake news in the trashy newspaper The Wall Street Journal."

He wrote that he looked forward to Murdoch "testifying in the case where I sue him and his 'garbage pile' newspaper The Wall Street Journal," "that will be very interesting."

Murdoch is the founder and current honorary chairman of News Corporation. News Corporation is the parent company of Dow Jones, and The Wall Street Journal is a media outlet under Dow Jones. (Translated by Yang Ke)
