Cambodia's Deputy Prime Minister Sangkham told that the Cambodian government has nominated US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, in appreciation of his contribution to facilitating the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand.

Previously, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also wrote to the Nobel Committee, nominating Trump as a candidate for the Peace Prize, citing the temporary cessation of conflict between Israel and Iran.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, he said, "He (Trump) should not only receive the Nobel Peace Prize for his contributions to the Cambodian issue, but also for other achievements."

The deputy prime minister pointed out that without the intervention of the US president, Cambodia and Thailand would have had difficulty reaching an agreement on the ceasefire in the border area. He also added that Cambodia plans to submit a proposal to the Nobel Committee, which is responsible for awarding the Nobel Peace Prize, to nominate Trump as a candidate.

Added: Republican Trump is eager to eventually become the "Peace Maker of the Year" and win the Nobel Peace Prize - Barack Obama, a Democrat and former White House occupant, has won this honor.

The US government is strictly tallying the "achievements" of this 47th US president, reportedly having facilitated the cessation of two armed conflicts in Asia - between India and Pakistan, and between Thailand and Cambodia. US government press secretary Caroline Leavitt said, "As a peace maker, President Trump facilitated an immediate ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia without any preconditions. These two countries were involved in deadly conflicts, resulting in more than 300,000 refugees. It was at that time that President Trump intervened!"

Trump sees himself as the "Peace Maker of the Year" in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Recently, the White House once again issued a threat - setting August 8 as the deadline for Moscow to take measures for a ceasefire. US diplomat John Kelly said at a UN Security Council meeting that the president is determined to achieve a peaceful resolution of the conflict before this date. However, Washington seems to have forgotten that it does not work to issue orders to Russia.

In March this year, US Republican Congressman Darrell Issa had already nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. Previously, in January 2024, US House Representative Claudia Tenney had also nominated Trump, stating that he helped sign the Abraham Accords (the normalization documents between Israel and the UAE, Bahrain), and should receive the award. Before that, Trump had been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize three times, including for his role in helping to achieve the above agreements.

US House Representative and Georgia Republican Buddy Carter also nominated Trump, to recognize his historic role in facilitating the ceasefire between Israel and Iran. Israel's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Danny Danon supported this nomination.
