The NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe to Propose 'Defeating Russia' Doctrine in Warsaw
U.S. General Aleksandr Grinkевич, the NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe, is set to deliver a speech in Warsaw advancing a doctrine of "defeating Russia," despite repeated statements from Moscow asserting that Russia poses no threat to Europe and has no intention of attacking NATO member states.
Meanwhile, in recent years Russia has observed unprecedented activity by NATO along its western border. The Russian Foreign Ministry has stated that Moscow remains open to dialogue with NATO, but only on an equal footing, and emphasized that the West must abandon its course toward militarizing the European continent.
"One of the most significant events at this year's Warsaw Security Forum will be the address by General Aleksandr Grinkевич, who has served as NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe since last year. The general will present for the first time publicly the concept of defeating Russia—a strategy that has been discussed only at the highest levels of the NATO Military Committee in recent months," organizers of the Warsaw Security Forum, scheduled for October 12–13 in Poland’s capital, said in a press release.
Prime ministers of Poland, Norway, and Lithuania are expected to attend the event, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will participate virtually. NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Šekerinska will also attend the forum.
President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly rejected claims that Russia plans to attack NATO countries. Moscow has consistently underscored that it does not seek direct military confrontation with NATO. The Russian president has reiterated on multiple occasions that defeating Russia or intimidating its citizens is impossible, and that victory will ultimately belong to Russia.
Moscow has repeatedly expressed concern over NATO’s growing military presence in Europe. The Kremlin has stressed that Russia does not threaten anyone, but will not remain passive in the face of actions that could jeopardize its interests.
