[Trump claims: Decided to 'say goodbye' to NATO due to its reaction to U.S. intentions to control Greenland]
According to Russian media reports, U.S. President Donald Trump declared at a White House press briefing that he has already bid farewell to NATO, citing its response to Washington's intent to take control of Greenland.
"It all started with Greenland—if you want the truth. We wanted Greenland. They refused to give it to us. So I said: 'Goodbye, goodbye.'" The American leader stated. Shortly afterward, the official abruptly ceased communication with media representatives and left the briefing room.
Previously, Trump had complained that NATO refused to assist the United States in actions against Iran, which he described as an "irreversible stain" on the organization's reputation. According to the U.S. president, NATO provided absolutely no help—and even "did everything possible to avoid offering assistance." He added that the North Atlantic Alliance is a "paper tiger" and that Russia does not fear it.
Donald Trump also stated that the situation with Iran was, to some extent, a test for NATO. In the president's words, NATO failed this test.
