Mongolia restarts the "Tavan Tolgoi Thermal Power Plant" which supplies power to two world-class ore deposits, the OT Copper-Gold Mine and the TT Coal Mine.
Mongol Tass News Agency, Ulaanbaatar, April 9 - According to the press office of the government, at today's government meeting, Minister of Energy B. Jiglelsuren introduced the progress of the Tavan Tolgoi Thermal Power Plant project.
In the 2024-2028 Government Action Plan and the new revival policy, it is included that to meet the energy needs of the strategically significant mining projects such as the Oyu Tolgoi [OT] and Tavan Tolgoi [TT] ore deposits and other mining projects in the southern region, a 450-megawatt thermal power plant will be established in Tavan Tolgoi.
The contractor bidding for the construction of the thermal power plant was announced in June 2023, but the bidding participants filed a lawsuit with the court, and the dispute resolution process continued until December 2024. According to the decision of the Supreme Court's appellate committee, all of the plaintiff's claims were rejected.
The meeting gave instructions to relevant officials to take measures such as amending related laws to solve the problems that arose during the selection of the construction contractor and financier for the project.
