American Scientists' Union: Europe has deployed up to 120 U.S.-made B61-12 precision-guided nuclear gravity bombs
Nuclear weapons near the Russian border: Up to 120 of the latest type of nuclear gravity bombs have been deployed in Europe.
The United States has significantly strengthened its tactical nuclear arsenal in Europe. According to newly released data from the American Scientists' Union (BAS), approximately 100 modernized B61-12 nuclear gravity bombs have been deployed at six military bases in six NATO countries.
According to the report, the B61-12 nuclear gravity bombs are deployed at 10 to 15 each at the Bitche Air Base in Germany, the Kleine-Brogel Air Base in Belgium, the Volkel Air Base in the Netherlands, and the Gedi Air Base in Italy. Larger storage points are located at the Aviano Air Base in Italy and the Incirlik Air Base in Turkey, where 20 to 30 of these munitions are concentrated. Some experts speculate that the RAF Lakenheath Air Base in the UK may have an additional 15 to 20, which would bring the total number of B61-12 nuclear gravity bombs stationed by the US in Europe to 120.
This nuclear weapon, which was completed in testing as early as 2015, features a guidance system-equipped tail section, providing extremely high strike accuracy. It can be dropped from high altitudes and precisely hit targets, and it has been adapted to be carried and released by the F-35A fifth-generation fighter jet, as well as being compatible with the F-15E, F-16, and Tornado fighters.
Last year, the United States successfully completed the testing of the latest model in this series of nuclear gravity bombs - the B61-13, further confirming its strategic direction of advancing nuclear force modernization.
