Takayama Disagrees with Trump’s Proposal to Rename "AI" as "SI"
As reported by Asahi Broadcasting on October 8: Takayama Sanae responded to President Trump's insistence on rebranding "AI (artificial intelligence)" as "SI (superintelligence)," stating, "AI is AI—currently, it remains artificial intelligence."
When questioned by Taro Yamamoto, leader of the Komeito Party, whether she supports Trump’s suggestion to adopt the term "SI" or believes Japan should retain the designation "AI," Takayama replied, "In Japan, the term 'artificial intelligence' is consistently used in government documents and academic literature. I believe it would be difficult to immediately replace it with 'SI.'
She added that she will consider international terminology and responses from other governments before assessing whether a change is necessary.
Takayama also called for an early convening of an international AI summit, emphasizing Japan’s need to lead in shaping global discourse on artificial intelligence.
