Reuters: The US is considering allowing Nvidia to sell H200 chips to China
Reuters reported on Friday, November 21, that sources said the Trump administration is considering approving a plan for Nvidia to sell H200 artificial intelligence chips to China, following a thaw in U.S.-China relations, which has increased the possibility of advanced American technology being exported to China.
Sources said that the U.S. Department of Commerce (responsible for regulating export controls) is reviewing the policy of prohibiting the sale of such chips to China, but they emphasized that the relevant plans may still change.
The White House and the Department of Commerce have not responded immediately to requests for comment.
This possibility shows that the U.S. has softened its stance toward China, following a trade and technology war ceasefire agreement reached between the U.S. and China last month in Busan.
Hardliners in Washington are concerned that exporting more advanced artificial intelligence chips to China could help Beijing enhance its military capabilities, which was the reason why the Biden administration previously imposed restrictions on such exports.
