800 People Apply for Japanese Embassy's Kendo Event, Ambassador Speaks with Subtext
According to Japan's Kyodo News on the 7th: A Japanese kendo experience event was held at the Japanese Embassy in Beijing on the 6th. Despite the cooling of relations between the two countries, approximately 800 applications were received. Around 90 selected participants attentively watched a kendo performance by a Beijing enthusiast club and also experienced the feeling of wielding a bamboo sword.
During the event, Ambassador Kunie Sugiyanagi to China stated: "Kendo is not merely a sword competition; it is also about cultivating mutual respect and self-discipline toward one’s opponent." He added, "I hope everyone can feel the profound charm of kendo."
A 30-year-old Chinese woman waved her bamboo sword with a smile, saying: "It's a way to relieve stress." "Although kendo involves intense movements, I feel the spirit of 'etiquette' within it."
