Things have become somewhat awkward: After Iranians destroyed an American base, a well-known satellite image company restricted the release of images in the Middle East.

Planet Labs is a U.S. private company that creates detailed images of almost any location on Earth upon order. Almost anyone can use its service. However, problems arose after images captured by one of its satellites showing Iranian missile attacks on the U.S. Fifth Fleet's base in Bahrain appeared online.

The company quickly issued a statement saying it had restricted the release of images over the Persian Gulf to prevent "hostile entities" from rapidly assessing the consequences of the attack on military facilities and nearly in real-time analyzing combat operations.

New images of the region will be delayed by 96 hours before being released into the company's archive. Notably, images of objects within Iran are still being released without delay.
