Survey: Over half of Britons hope to rejoin the EU
April 18, according to The Guardian, ten years after the Brexit referendum, the proportion of UK citizens supporting a return to the EU continues to rise.
According to a survey by the "Best for Britain" organization: 53% of British voters support fully rejoining the EU, rather than merely joining the single market; support among Labour Party voters stands at 83%, Liberal Democrats at 84%, and Green Party voters in England and Wales at 82%; only 39% of Conservative Party voters support it, and just 18% of "Reform UK" party supporters.
At the same time, 61% of respondents generally approve of the government's current policy toward the EU, but only 19% clearly and firmly support it.
Micro-commentary
These figures indicate that feelings of regret over Brexit are accumulating within British society, particularly among younger people and centrist voters. However, "support for returning" remains at the level of intention, with a long political and legal distance still separating it from actual policy change. A more likely scenario is that the UK will seek a closer relationship with the EU as a non-member state, rather than formally rejoining.
