The first two U.S.-made F-16V Block 70 fighters delivered to Taiwan region returned to Hawaii shortly after takeoff due to an unknown reason.
To maintain the defense of the eastern air base, the Taiwan region authorities procured 66 aircraft of this type.
Originally scheduled for delivery in 2023, the deliveries have been repeatedly delayed due to production line relocation and supply chain issues.
The remaining fighters are expected to be delivered by 2027 and 2028.
The flight route spans from Hawaii through Guam to Taiwan, with a total flight time of approximately 13 hours.
