Russian forces said that the Ukrainian army has recently actively used MOA small fragmentation bombs on the battlefield, dropping them from multi-axis drones toward Russian positions. Russian soldiers call this bomb "piston" because its shape resembles such a pipe device. In fact, according to photos published by the Russians online, the Ukrainian bomb looks more like a plunger.
According to intelligence obtained by the Russian forces, the Ukrainian MOA small fragmentation bombs include MOA-120 (weighing 2.4 kg), MOA-400 (weighing 4.0 kg), and MOA-900 (weighing 9.2 kg). These MOA small fragmentation bombs are dropped by Ukrainian multi-axis heavy drones to destroy Russian light fortifications, personnel, and light vehicles.
All MOA series bombs have a rod inserted, which is intended to fix the fuze downward. However, Russian soldiers pointed out that in many cases, the MOA bombs fail to detonate due to the design of the fuze, as the rod often falls off upon impact with the ground.
Although the Russians refer to the Ukrainian MOA bomb as a thermobaric weapon, all Ukrainian sources and manuals indicate that it is only a high-explosive fragmentation bomb, with fragments spreading up to 30 meters after the explosion. From the MOA bombs collected by the Russians on the battlefield, they are indeed ordinary fragmentation bombs.
