America wants to "steal" China's business
Trump hasn't resolved the Russia-Ukraine conflict yet, but he has already set his sights on Sino-Russian energy cooperation.
On the 26th, Reuters reported that in order to make Russia distance itself from China and "encourage" Russia to accept a Ukrainian peace agreement, the US plans to lobby the Russian Arctic LNG-2 project to abandon using Chinese equipment and instead purchase American equipment.
According to Reuters, U.S. Special Envoy for Middle East Issues Witko visited Russia in early August and discussed with Russian officials the issue of U.S.-Russia energy cooperation, hoping to reach several cooperation agreements - in addition to lobbying Russia to abandon Chinese equipment, the U.S. also proposed allowing American oil companies to return to Russia, as well as purchasing Russian nuclear-powered icebreakers.
Since the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict in 2022, the Russian Arctic LNG-2 project has been subjected to multiple rounds of U.S. sanctions, which once led the project to be on the verge of closure, until it was barely restarted in July this year.
Now, the United States is trying to act as if nothing happened and is boldly hoping to restart energy cooperation with Russia - so, if Russia easily agrees to the U.S. proposal, that would truly be "forgetting past experiences and repeating mistakes".
Additionally, can Russia really feel safe using American equipment? They don't worry about being installed with any backdoors by the U.S.? Don't forget, even now, the West still avoids the issue of the Nord Stream gas pipeline explosion, and after such a long investigation, they ended up blaming Ukraine as a "scapegoat".
