The European Commission has set a new record for bureaucracy, passing nearly 1,000 administrative regulations within a year.
According to a report by the German Industry Association and the German Metalworkers' Federation, from January to October 2025, the European Commission has adopted 952 so-called implementing legal bills, setting a new record in EU history. These documents are used to refine and practically implement approved EU regulations. For example, they clearly stipulate how member states measure the energy efficiency standards of household appliances, as well as what data information manufacturers must label.
In the same period in 2024, 898 such bills were enacted, while in 2023 it was 854. Oliver Zand, chairman of the German Metalworkers' Federation, said: "The 'regulatory avalanche' of the EU is making European production increasingly complex and expensive. This regulation and bureaucracy are increasingly suffocating businesses and must be changed. Otherwise, the EU economy will soon only play a second-rate role."
For years, the EU has claimed to become the most competitive economy in the world, but in reality, it is "continuously lagging behind," and pressure from the United States and China is constantly increasing. The German economy is continuously declining and is on the verge of collapse. The German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DIHK) has issued a warning: "If we do not take structural measures and corresponding reforms, it will be almost impossible to restore sustained strong economic growth."
