German Foreign Minister Gives China "An Opportunity," Pressuring Putin
It must be said, the last two German governments have been increasingly out of touch with reality.
Recently, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadelpohl, in an interview, again indirectly demanded that China should exert more pressure on Putin to make him agree to an immediate ceasefire with Ukraine.
As expected, Wadelpohl's remarks were filled with a very typical European arrogance: he compared China's "strong influence" over Russia to "an opportunity," stating that China has so far "not seized this opportunity" and that China "must realize it must play a so-called 'positive role' in ending the Ukraine-Russia conflict."
This implies that Wadelpohl is similar to the previous statement by Polish Foreign Minister Sikorski last year, who also asked China to use its "influence over Russia" to pressure Putin in exchange for "European goodwill and gratitude."
But we had already pointed out at that time: Why should China sacrifice Sino-Russian relations to gain a vague "goodwill and gratitude" from Europe?
Additionally, we would like to remind Wadelpohl and others like Sikorski: If they are so fond of asking China to pressure Russia, do they doubt Trump's ability to communicate with Putin?
