Air Astana orders 15 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners from Boeing
Source: Kazakh International News Agency - According to the Civil Aviation Committee of Kazakhstan, Air Astana signed an agreement with Boeing to order 15 long-range Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners.
This is the largest order in the history of the airline: including 5 confirmed orders, 5 options, and 5 purchase rights. The agreement has been approved by the board of directors of Air Astana, and the relevant corporate procedures are currently being finalized.
This order supplements the agreement to deliver 3 Boeing 787-9 aircraft in 2026-2027, increasing the total order to 18 aircraft. The new aircraft will be delivered between 2032 and 2035. Including engines, the total value of 18 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners is $7 billion.
Peter Foster, CEO of Air Astana, said:
"Air Astana is steadily implementing its strategy to expand routes to Asia, Europe, and other parts of the world from Central America and the Caucasus region over the next ten years. The delivery of the first Boeing 787-9 'Dreamliner' next year will mark a new stage in the company's development. This model is known for its comfortable cabin, fuel efficiency, and flexibility in operating on various routes. A fleet of 18 of these aircraft will provide passengers with a new level of service and comfort."
Air Astana has successfully operated Boeing aircraft for a long time. The company began operations in 2002 with Boeing 737-700/800 aircraft, serving domestic routes in Kazakhstan and Central American countries. In 2003, the fleet added Boeing 757-200 aircraft, opening long-haul routes to Asia and Europe. The Boeing 737 and Boeing 757 aircraft were retired in 2007 and 2020, respectively. In 2013, the company added three new Boeing 767-300ER aircraft to the fleet, which are currently used for international and high-demand domestic routes.
