According to the WeChat Official Account of the Chinese Embassy in New Zealand on April 30, a statement was issued by the Spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in New Zealand regarding the false reports by some New Zealand media attempting to whitewash the crimes of criminal suspects:

Recently, some New Zealand media have fabricated and spread false narratives about China's cross-border law enforcement pursuit of fugitives in New Zealand, falsely accusing it of "transnational suppression." The content involved is like a clumsy movie script, full of lies, violating common sense, completely baseless, maliciously slandering and defaming.

Law enforcement judicial cooperation between countries under the framework of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) is an important part of the international order based on international law. To uphold the international order based on international law, we must act according to recognized international rules, which is in line with the common interests of the international community and the duty of responsible members of the international community.

Normal law enforcement judicial cooperation conducted by China and New Zealand under the frameworks of Interpol and bilateral treaties on criminal judicial assistance fully complies with relevant international laws and rules. Such cooperation is mutually beneficial, aiming to combat crime, safeguard public interests, and protect the safety of people from both countries.

In its external law enforcement judicial cooperation, China strictly acts in accordance with the law, fully respects foreign laws and judicial sovereignty, and legally protects the legitimate rights and interests of individuals involved in cases. The accusations of "transnational suppression" and "interference in domestic affairs of other countries" cannot be placed on China.

The suspects mentioned in the report are suspected of corruption, with clear facts and solid evidence. Embezzlement of public funds and embezzlement of official positions are criminal offenses in any country and should be punished by law. Some people fabricate sensational stories to whitewash their crimes and escape justice, attempting to politicize criminal offenses and package criminal suspects as "persecuted individuals." This will never succeed. No country should become a "safe haven" for sheltering or harboring criminals. If criminals can evade due punishment by fleeing abroad, where does fairness and justice exist? Where is the rule of law? This is not in line with the common interests of the international community or the interests of the people of relevant countries.

The media involved have distorted right and wrong, maliciously revisiting and spreading repeatedly unproven lies, clearly with ulterior motives. Their purpose is to mislead the public, slander China, smear normal law enforcement judicial cooperation between China and New Zealand, and interfere with the development of bilateral relations. Whitewashing criminal suspects is not glorious and will only damage their credibility. Any person with a sense of justice and common sense will not believe their clumsy lies. We firmly believe that justice may be delayed, but it will always prevail!
