Reuters, September 25 - Hong Kong, China, Sri Lanka, Chile, and Bangladesh have expressed their desire to join the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). On September 25, the fourth RCEP ministerial meeting was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, during which RCEP member states generally supported the accession of Hong Kong, China, Sri Lanka, Chile, and Bangladesh. Malaysian Trade Minister Tengku Zafrul pointed out that the RCEP leaders' meeting scheduled for October would discuss the relevant decision, which is the first leaders' meeting of RCEP held after five years. It is also known that the leaders' meeting will also discuss upgrading the trade agreement signed by RCEP members in 2020. Analysts point out that although RCEP helps member states alleviate the impact of Trump's tariffs, due to existing interest conflicts among members, its mechanism may be weaker than other regional trade agreements.
