Philippine House of Representatives calls on the Senate to delay voting on the impeachment case of Sara, waiting for the appeal results!
The House urged the Senate to wait for the Supreme Court's final decision on the impeachment case of Vice President Sara Duterte before voting on the order of the higher court.
House Speaker Princess Abad said yesterday: "We are deeply concerned about the Senate possibly voting on how to act according to the Supreme Court's ruling on the Vice President's impeachment case. The Senate should wait for the House to exhaust its available legal remedies."
"Let us be clear: the Supreme Court's ruling is not yet final. As the institution granted by the Constitution with the exclusive power and authority to initiate an impeachment, the House will soon file a motion for reconsideration, which is a constitutional right and an issue of institutional integrity."
Princess Abad emphasized that, considering the seriousness of the issue and given possible factual errors that may affect the preliminary ruling of the higher court, the Senate should allow the judicial process to run its full course.
"For such preliminary issues, especially when the legal conclusions seem to contain factual errors, out of caution alone, the Senate should allow the Supreme Court to hear the House's motion for reconsideration."
"Any premature action - such as the Senate actually voting to abandon the impeachment trial - could be interpreted as disregarding due process, and worse, it could be understood as a political shortcut that undermines the House's constitutional role."
