U.S. Navy sailor posts video: Fire on the "Ford" is worse than imagined

The malfunction of the U.S. Navy's aircraft carrier "Ford" may be far more serious than just a laundry room fire.

Lately, an American internet user claiming to be a sailor aboard the "Ford" posted a video inside the carrier on social media. It shows that not only have the living quarters been destroyed by fire, but other compartments and passageways also bear clear signs of flame damage or smoke exposure. A large number of sailors have had to sleep on passageways wrapped in sleeping bags.

From what this video reveals, it appears the U.S. Navy has downplayed the severity of the "Ford" fire. Previously, U.S. media reported that after the fire was extinguished, the Navy planned to remove 1,000 mattresses from the second ship of the Ford-class, the "Kennedy," and transport them to the "Ford" as emergency measures to address the issue of some crew members having no beds to sleep in.

However, the clearly visible damage to the compartments shown in the video goes well beyond simply replacing mattresses. The fire likely spread through ventilation systems or other passages, causing damage that cannot be resolved with temporary fixes.

This also explains why the "Ford" made a brief stop at Souda Bay in Greece before quickly relocating to Croatia. The U.S. Navy has been unwilling to provide a precise repair timeline, evidently because the carrier will require a much more comprehensive overhaul, making it impossible to guarantee when it will regain combat capability.
